Education: The Kids Aren’t Alright

The cause of Philadelphia’s failing public schools has been attributed to anything from budget stalemates in Harrisburg, to misappropriation of past federal stimulus money, to district officials determined to live above their means. Whatever the cause, the effect is the same: students are suffering.

Education: Sick at School? No Nurse on Duty

It’s a busy Monday morning at Andrew Jackson Elementary School in South Philadelphia when two kindergarteners walk into the front office, one with wet pants. As the little boy begins to tearfully explain how he nearly had an accident, the office personnel spring into action calling for help. The little boy is startled, worried he’s done something wrong, when the school security officer arrives in lieu of a school nurse.

In just a few short years, Lora is making her mark on the media industry. Passionate, highly-motivated and empathetic, her galvanizing attitude brings a productive and compelling dynamic to the world of journalism.

A multimedia reporter and nationally-recognized “quadruple-threat” in the industry, Lora enjoys reporting in myriad forms for air on multiple platforms. She has covered Supreme Court rulings and Senate hearings, inner-city education and arts programs, business research and newsmakers--on air, online and in print.

Her work as a broadcast producer, video and web editor has been featured at the 2013 News and Documentary Emmy Awards, and online at the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs, Philadelphia Neighborhoods and Temple Update Now.

Her experience in public affairs reporting stems from time spent assisting the communications director of the City of Alexandria, as a part of the public relations team at the Temple University Fox School of Business, reporting for PoliticsPA.com and the Department of Defense’s Army News Service.

Her copy editing skills were most recently utilized at The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Lora received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism and French from Temple University in May 2016.

Indulging her interest in comprehensive and concise reporting, Lora is currently working as the Science and Social Media News Assistant for the PBS NewsHour—pitching and delivering innovative content for broadcast, web, and social media
